Dwight Lodeweges
Dwight Lodeweges (born October 26, 1957 in Turner Valley, Alberta, Canada) is Dutch football coach and former professional player now coaching for JEF United Ichihara Chiba in J. League Division 2.
Early life
Lodeweges was born to Dutch parents and they soon moved back to the Netherlands, where he would grow up.
Career
He started his footballing career with the Go Ahead Eagles. After 4 years with the Eagles he moved back to Canada to play with the Edmonton Drillers of the NASL.
After the NASL folded, Lodeweges played for the Minnesota Strikers, an indoor soccer team. He would return to the Eagles in 1988, and played his last game in September 1991. Lodeweges went on to coach several teams in the Netherlands.
International career
1978 was so good that he played for the Dutch U-21 team, however he never played for the senior squad.
While playing in Edmonton the Canadian Soccer Association had inquired about him suiting up for the Canadian national team. But since he had already played for the Dutch he was ineligible.
Managerial career
Lodeweges was often an interim manager, assistant manager or youth coach, but seldom the head coach. In 1998, he took over at FC Zwolle, and in 2001 he moved to FC Groningen. In the 2001–02 season, Groningen had Arjen Robben in their roster, but they barely survived. In 2007, PSV hired both Sef Vergoossen (head coach) and Dwight Lodeweges (assistant to Vergoossen) to finish the season after the departure of Ronald Koeman. During the summer of 2008, PSV hired Huub Stevens as the new head coach for the 08/09 season, Dwight Lodeweges became one of Stevens' assistants.
After the resignation of Huub Stevens, Lodeweges was named PSV Eindhoven's head coach. He finished the season, but then left to become head coach for NEC Nijmegen,[1] On 9 April 2009 signing on for two years.[2] Lodeweges dismissed from the role of manager at NEC Nijmegen, after the defeat 4–0 of Sunday, against PSV Eindhoven.[3]
On 9 March 2010 was named as the new Head Coach of FC Edmonton.[4] He left the club before its first competitive match and signed to coach JEF United Ichihara Chiba of J. League Division 2 on 3 December 2010.[5]
